FlyVIZ headset allows a 360-degree field of vision

FlyVIZ headset

How often do you wish to have eyes at the back of your head to have a complete control over the situation? Developed by Jérôme Ardouin in collaboration with colleagues at the Grande École d’Ingenieurs Paris-Laval in France, the “FlyVIZ” is a headset that captures images from different directions to allow a 360-degree field of vision to the wearer.

Mounting a video camera on top of a helmet with specifically designed mirrors to capture the surrounding environment and display it on a modified Sony Personal 3D Viewer headset in real time, the headgear takes about 15 minutes to let the user interact with the surroundings without causing any nausea, motion sickness or visual fatigue. Currently the FlyVIZ is at prototype stage and measures about 1.6 kg which is a bit heavy to move around with ease.
